Februrary - health and nutrition

We continued to learn about health and nutrition for the month of February. Our main topics are exercise, body parts, and healthy foods. We've also been talking about doctors and dentists. We set up a doctor's office in our dramatic play center and the children have been busy playing doctor and patient.

Doctor Joe came in for a visit. We dressed up as teeth. He stuck yucky cavity bugs on the teeth and then we had to brush them off. He talked to us about how to keep our teeth healthy and what a dentist does.

We've been incorporating a lot of 'exercise' related learning activities to our daily routine. Here we are playing letter basketball. (This is super easy to do at home! All you need is paper and a bucket!!). First we laid out a bunch of letters on the floor, then we took turns picking a letter, recognizing it, crumpling it up, and shooting it in the basket.
This activity can be done with numbers, shapes, etc. and can also be modified for your child's specific skill that they are working on. When we played this, for example, some students named the letter, some named the letter sound, and others were challenged to think of words that started with that particular letter.
