Self help skills

The weather is getting colder which means it is getting to be jacket season. We have noticed in the last few days that many of the children do not attempt to put on their own jacket. This is a very important self help skill that they should be practicing at home. Attached is a video on how to teach your child how to put on their own coat independently. We have 20 students in each class and things can get a little chaotic when students are expecting the teachers to do it for them. Here is the video on how to teach your child to put on their own coat: Flip your coat

Fire safety

The firefighters came to visit us last week. We learned about how to stay safe in case of a fire. If the fire alarm in our house goes off we should GO OUT AND STAY OUT.
We learned that we should call 911 in case of an emergency.
We also learned how to stop, drop, and roll.

We also had fun dressing up as firefighters in the classroom. Dressing up as different characters and professions is a great opportunity for students to pretend play and practice new vocabulary.

We had so much fun learning from the Aurora Fire Department
Stop, drop and roll!

Listening to the firefighters

The firefighters put on all their gear and let the children touch their uniforms so that they know not to be afraid in case of a real emergency.

Fall Fall Fall

It's been a while since my last update. I apologize for that. We are well into October now and we're learning about all things FALL.

Our vocabulary focus for October is:

apple
acorn
corn
pumpkin
hay
tree
scarecrow
leaf
bat

Working on our letter recognition skills by matching letter apples in our apple orchard.

Rolling golf balls to make fun apple prints.

Cutting out and sorting pumpkin shapes - this works on both our math and fine motor development!

Big smile :)

Painting paper bag pumpkins

We talked about area of different sized leaves. We tried to see how many cubes we could fit inside each leaf!

Working on 3D creations with our pumpkin scented playdough.
